What is there today?

The Old Schools Lane site is owned by the Salesians of Don Bosco, a registered charity and part of a worldwide religious congregation dedicated to working with young people, and especially the poorest. The site is surplus to its original needs and the Trustees are prepared to release it for the Abbeyfield scheme as they are pleased to think that the site (originally purchased in the 1930s to serve one of its schools in London – now closed) could be used to provide significant long-term benefits to all ages of residents of Epsom and Ewell.

Pending a decision about its future, the site is unoccupied and is likely to remain so until a satisfactory and unconditional offer for the land is secured by the landowner.

The present owners have stated –

'"The likely alternative open to us as a charity if our efforts to leave a legacy of 'community value' are rejected and Abbeyfield's application is refused, is to wait until the time is right and sell the land in the most advantageous way."
