Community Chairman's letter Letter from the builder

GROUNDBREAKING AT OLD SCHOOLS LANE

HISTORIC GROUNDBREAKING FOR NONSUCH ABBEYFIELD

After several years in the planning, construction has begun on Nonsuch Abbeyfield a 60 home lifestyle community for people over 65 seeking independent living but with the services and care they may need as they get older and require more help. Graham Walker, Chairman of Abbeyfield Southern said “he was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Liz Frost; to the building site on Old Schools Lane to mark this highly anticipated event.” He added “Abbeyfield’s local charity is continuing a journey with this development that started nearly 60 years ago in Purley and grew to embrace Sutton, Cheam, Ewell and Epsom, all made possible by the efforts of many generations of volunteers. Madam Mayor, thank you for agreeing to be here today”. Mayor Frost responded “Abbeyfield Southern Oaks' £17million building and sports facilities are being started today and I am delighted to be here to witness this significant moment, which marks Abbeyfield’s commitment to the local community in providing homes and a fitting lifestyle for our older residents. We are laying the foundation here today for a community which will have sixty independent living flats, and a generous mix of shared facilities, plus some care as would be needed by individuals. Epsom Sports Club has been looking for land to provide a greater variety of sport facilities than it can just provide from its existing club house alongside Epsom Hospital. Some of the new sports facilities will be available for use at the end of this year. There are exciting opportunities for these two not-for-profit communities to enrich each other.” Mr. Walker thanked the Mayor and added. “Nonsuch Abbeyfield is to create a community here that will support and nurture independent living and companionship for older people for decades to come. There will be sixty flats and extensive communal facilities, including attractive gardens. We will also provide modern sports facilities for local citizens of all ages. We are delighted that Epsom Sports Club intends to take up the mantle of making this sporting vision happen. It has taken 6 years of hard work to get us here. It is great to be working with Castleoak, an experienced Abbeyfield design and build partner, and we are looking forward to deepening our relationships with Epsom Sports Club and the Borough of Epsom and Ewell in the years ahead.”

Abbeyfield Southern Oaks will be actively marketing Nonsuch Abbeyfield in the late Spring of this year when there will have more details on pricing and the services to be offered within this expansive lifestyle community. Besides offering one and two bedroom self-contained flats, amenities will include a restaurant, lounges, exercise and fitness areas, a club room, hobby areas and a cinema room. The development is scheduled for completion and homes ready for occupancy by the Autumn of 2019. With just 30 homes for sale and 6 homes for rental, a very strong local interest is anticipated. Therefore, in the interim, interested persons should call Mel at the ASO office 020 8394 0050 to join our waitlist of prospective buyers.
